"Holy" Hubert Lindsey...minister of the Spirit or Theologian?

The fascinating thing about Brother Lindsey's ministry was the fact that he taught the Bible with great depth...but he also minstered Christ to the hearts and souls of the listener. The power of Christ was behind Brother Lindsey's preaching and teaching and anyone who listened to his preaching would testify to such. Christ was always the center of his message. The ministration of the Spirit "worked" because Brother Lindsey preached and centered Christ in all his messages. On the street, on the radio, in the recording studio, inside the four walls of the local Chruch the work of Christ was always the cental theme. Brother Lindsey didn't tell people what to do...he told them about the supremacy of Christ...and proved it with evidence from the Holy Scriptures.

Holy Hubert was also called the "Walking Bible"because of his God given ability to quote and teach the Holy Scriptures with great depth. Hubert Lindsey's Theology seemed unlimited. To many this would make Hubert Lindsey a Theologian...but Brother Lindsey was more than a Theologian because he ministered in the Spirit with love for humanity. Brother Lindsey was concerned about Christ meeting every need for every person that he ministered to. He cared about people enough that he pleaded Christ to every man for personal forgiveness. Brother Lindsey always made sure that his listeners understood personal forgiveness and the life of holiness and right living that followed the new birth.

Teaching Bible Theology was one thing...but ministering in the Spirit was another. Ministering in the Spirit is what "drove" Brother Lindsey's ministry. His Theology only confirmed the basis of his ministry and calling. His call and obedience to Christ is what allowed him to be such a minister. This writer was touched by that ministry and that's what compels me personally to write and carry on what Brother Lindsey started. Brother Lindsey's ministry touched many lives across this nation and the testimonies seem to be vast. As a matter of fact this writer learned what the "true Gospel" was from Brother Lindsey.

This writer will continue to magnify the Great Grace and truth of the Gospel that Brother Lindsey gave his life to preach, teach, and minister for 72 years. I find it honorable to the cause of Christ to keep Brother Lindsey's ministry alive ...even since Brother Lindsey went on the Heaven. I admit Brother Lindsey left us his Theology so we could learn to rightly divide the Scriptures. He also left us his example as a minister to see the human example of a true minister of the Spirit.

The ministry of the Spirit never ceases when Christ is centered in the message. If you have heard any of Brother Lindsey's preaching you understand what I mean. I had the privilege to tell Brother Lindsey personally that I would carry on his ministry every day of my life until I die. It was beautiful thing because it meant so much to Him. Glory to Christ because this ministry is centered around him! Glory to Christ who is more than theology! Glory to Christ who ministers in the Spirit in 2009. Don't forget to listen to some of Brother Lindsey's good Gospel preaching. Also if you have any testimonies in regards to the ministration of the Spirit under Brother Lindsey's ministry please sent them to the Churches on Trial and I will publish. Glory to Christ who saves and sanctifies!

What does passing from Glory to Glory mean?

2 Cor 3:18...But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

This Blog was sparked (at last night's service) by a dear sister in the Lord, Grace Allen. As we celebrated two years of service for Christ at the Upper Room...the sermon made reference to the ministry of the Holy Spirit and how the Spirit of God changes the moral make-up of the believer. The transformation to become a child of God is an instantaneous work of God's Saving Grace.

Many today teach the "gradual process of God" or "trying" which involves the process of man in human effort. The Grace of God does not involve human action. The Grace of God is the action of God!

The question came up last night, "What does it mean to pass from glory to glory?"

To answer such question the student of God's Word must know the difference between Law and Grace. It must be understood; who the Law of Moses was given to; when the Law began; and when the Law ended. Passing from Glory to Glory makes a distinction between the ministry of the Law of Moses given to Israel and the ministry of the Holy Spirit given to the Church...now present tense.

The ministry of the Law of Moses was glorius...but the ministry of the Holy Spirit today in the Church is even more glorious.

2 Cor 3:7-9...But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory "was to be done away": How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

Note how the above verse stated that the Glory of the Law was to be done away.

In the past God ministered to Israel with His Law and Commandments. At present God ministers to the Church through the ministry of His Holy Spirit.

The Law was done away with at the Cross of Calvary. The presence and blessing of the Holy Spirit in the Church came into play in this present Grace Age of the Church. That's what the Apostle meant when he said the following,

2 Cor 3:3-6... Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

The life of the Spirit is a greater glory than letter of the Law.

2 Cor 4:1-5...Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Going from Glory to Glory makes no reference to the process of a Christian or the gradual change into holiness. Going from Glory to Glory made reference to Isreal's transformation from the ministry of the Law and commandments to the ministry of the Spirit under Grace in this present Grace Age. The fruit of the Gospel message is the, " changed heart and life of a believer in Christ".

By the Grace of God we will post the actual audio recording of this sermon (in the future) at sermon.net and at his Blog. Questions bring answers. Thank you Grace Allen for the excellent question.

In Christ is when the old becomes new

When Jesus becomes real to your heart and thinking...a moral change occurs within the human soul. The old is made new and the new becomes a way of life. It is written and can be lived - only by the faithful in Christ.

Christ was the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the World...

After the fall of Adam, man has since been polluted with a sinful nature. In God's plan of redemption to redeem fallen man...Jesus had to become a man... to be the atoning sacrificial lamb offered back to God for the sins of humanity. Christ's humanity allowed God's redemptive work to be given to fallen man. The Bible describes Christ as atoning the Lamb of God...

1 Peter 1:19-20...But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world,

Rev 13:8...whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

In Saint John's day when this Apostle of Christ wrote his Epistles, he was contending with a pagan religion call Gnosticism. Gnostic's denied the fact that Christ was a human being but they accepted the fact that Christ was very God. Even Gnostic religion couldn't deny the fact that Jesus had performed so many miracles at that day and hour. Christ was renowned in many countries in Asia minor...as the promised Messiah who miraculously died and rose from the grave. The truth about the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world was spreading throughout all of Europe through the preaching of the Gospel message.

As the Prophets declared...God came down from Heaven in the form of a man. Christ came in the form of a seed and was placed within the womb of the virgin Mary by the Spirit of Holiness...according to God's promises. Christ the promised "seed" was the only seed of a woman in the history of humanity. This miracle seed formed the Christ child in the womb of a virgin. All men "except" Christ are made of the seed of a man. Christ (God in the flesh) was made of the seed of woman. Think about that miracle! Glory! Christ was made of the seed of a woman!

Gen 3:15...And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and "her seed;" it shall bruise thy head,
Gal 4:4-5...But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman

Christ who was God in the beginning was also... the "Word of God" as they are one in the same. Christ, the Word of God, became flesh and dwelt among us.

John 1:14...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)

When Christ as the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world hung on the cross, we can find these distinct words that prove that Christ was a man. Notice the physical anatomy of the man Christ! The "water and blood" prove the human anatomy of Christ. The water and blood prove that Christ was a human being just like you and I. Christ's humanity proved the truth about God's Promises. Christ's humanity was also proven in the records of Saint John's Gospel.

John 19:34-36...But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

This "very humanity of Christ" is what John was refuting with the Gnostic religion...in His First Epistle. Note John's description of the very make-up of the human being which consists of about 80-90% water. This description of water and blood in the following verse simply defines the human make-up of Christ in rebuttal against Gnosticism.

1 John 5:6... This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.

Gnosticism denied the fact of Christ's humanity. This very denial made by the Gnostics is what John was "reproving" when he spoke of, "the sin unto death." Anyone knows that God in His mercy is compassionate and loving to forgive...BUT THE DENIAL OF THE HUMANITY OF CHRIST WAS UNPARDONABLE AND WAS CALLED A SIN UNTO DEATH THAT COULD NOT BE PRAYED FOR.

1 John 5:16... If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. "There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it".

The mysterious... "sin unto death" taught in John's First Epistle was simply God's Judgment against the Gnostics denial of the humanity of Christ. The pagan concept of Gnosticism was tainting the true Gospel message that Christians had been taught by the Apostle John...after the death and resurrection of Christ.

The fruit of righteousness. Grace that "works in"...brings obedience that "works out".

The power of God's Grace is not a progressive work as many people think. Saving Grace is the power of Salvation which is the outflow of Calvary within the human soul. The effect of Calvary upon the believer in Christ... "morally changes the human soul". The corrupt and unholy heart is made clean. Holiness begins when the heart is made clean by the Grace of God. Salvation is a complete work performed by God's Grace. The fruit of Salvation is the morally changed heart and life of a sinner to state of becoming... a child of God.
When the Bible says, "Work out your Salvation with fear and trembling" it doesn't mean to gradually get closer to God. It means to work out what God already "worked within you".
Phil 2:12-13...as ye have always "obeyed", not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Notice the language of the scripture. Paul commended the Phillipian church because they "always obeyed". What caused these believer's in Christ, to obey God? God had already performed the work of Salvation within those hearts and lives. The Phillipian Church was saved. They were filled with the fruits of righteousness. Paul was confident of this, because he knew what God had already given them. He knew Divine Grace that flowed from Calvary was enough to sustain these believers, all the way through life...until the day of Christ's return.

Phil 1:6...Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Phil 1:10-11...That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

You can be filled with the fruits of righteousness in this life. You can obey God every day of your existence. You can have assurance and confidence that Salvation is the beginning of the new heart and new life. This is the blessing of Salvation and obedience to God. This is the new heart and the new life the Bible teaches about.  This is obedience to God that the world doesn't have or know about. You can live victorious! You can have contentment found in the holy life! You can walk and live with obedience to God every day of your existence in Christ! Be blessed by the power of God's Grace! This is what the Bible teaches! Read it closely! Meditate on it! Glory!
