Eternal Judgment: As taught by Jesus

Preface: From the Jewish perspective the teachings of Christ were always based on Old Testament records which literally came through the Jewish nation and Jewish men of God. Within these records we have:

1. The Torah (Law and 613 commandments) (First 5 books)
2. The Prophets
3. The Psalms

The teachings of the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms were confirmed by the words of Christ in the four Gospels.

1. Matthew
2. Mark
3. Luke
4. John

The subject of Eternal Judgment from the Old Testament is remarkably interesting yet very vague unless one studies the Old Testament in detail.

Life beyond the grave is the Eternal picture of an unseen world and spiritual abode of the dead. Within this Eternal and unseen world, you have reward and punishment; spiritual life and death; and body resurrection. All of which were opinionated even documented by the mysticism of Talmudic teaching and/or other doctrines of Jewish men that are not scripturally based.

If we examine the teachings of Christ who was considered a teacher at the age of twelve, even teachers of the Sanhedrin were amazed at how this boy Jesus knew God’s Word.

  • Luke 2:46-47… And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. hearing them and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

At the age of 30 Jesus according to Law Jesus was legally allowed to teach in the Jewish Temple and customarily allowed to teach in the synagogues. Behind the scenes of man’s Law Jesus, the Messiah and son of God was actually the author of God’s moral Law for Israel.

  • John 1:1-2…In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
  • John 1:14… And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,

Jesus taught and elaborated on “Abrahams Bosom” a Jewish perspective on the unseen world and spiritual abode of the dead. Abraham’s Bosom was an Eternal place for God’s punishment or God’s reward.

  • Luke 16:22-23… And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Jesus taught Abraham’s Bosom was a place of Eternal Judgment. It was recognized as a place of Eternal Life known as Heaven or Eternal punishment known as Hell. Heaven and/or Hell was the picture of Jesus’ teaching of Eternal life with the Father in the unseen world and the spiritual abode of the faithful in God. Jesus said:

  • John 14:2-3… In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Even though Jesus (God in the flesh) was born and lived as a man for 33 years He knew the “moral righteousness of the Law for humanity” and taught it. Moral righteousness is what saved the Jewish man from an adverse “life beyond the grave” called Eternal Damnation.

  • Mark 3:29… But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

Jesus a Jew and teacher of Judaism taught Eternal punishment from the Jewish perspective.

  • Matthew 25:45-46… Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

During Jesus’ earthly ministry He taught consequences as well as rewards of Eternal Judgment. Consequently, He taught more about Hell and Hell’s damnation and fire more than He did Heaven.

  • Mark 9:43… And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
  • Matthew 23:33… Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Within the realm of Eternal Judgment inside the Old Testament and teachings of Christ - you also had the subject of body resurrection. Body resurrection is the union made between body and soul, beyond the grave.

  • John 5:28, 29… Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • Matthew 22:31, 32… But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

At the crucifixion of Christ Jesus spoke of life beyond the grave in a glimpse of the spiritual abode of the dead. As He spoke to the two thieves, He mentioned the condemnation and reward. He termed the reward as “Paradise” where they would make their abode together in Heaven (Abrahams’s Bosom).

  • Luke 23:39-43… And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

At the point of death...

At the point of death the soul of man goes to the spiritual abode of the dead. Eternal life or Eternal damnation. Old Testament picture of “Abraham’s bosom”.

Draw a circle and draw a line through the middle. The picture is Paradise which is divided into Heaven or Hell. The unseen world.

Redeemed saints receive Heaven’s Bliss. Those lost men and women are without redemption receive Eternal Damnation like Jesus spoke of in Luke 16 concerning Lazarus and the rich man.

The physical bodies of the redeemed or lost always go to the grave (a place and physical abode of the body until it returns to dust).

The word Hell in the Old Testament (Sheol) is often interpreted the grave (where the physical body is placed) and what takes place at the point of death.

The Bible says some men's sins are open. Some men's sins are concealed.

1 Timothy 5:24, 25...Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

The subject of open sin is a subject that is not discussed much nowdays in our modern religious era. The reasons why sin is not addressed in society are many. In the heart and life of a child of God the Bible teaches that sin can be and is removed from the human make-up...by the power of God's Saving Grace. To be rid of sin is to be holy in the eyes of God. When sin is forgiven the unholy heart is made holy by the Grace of God. A new moral character is created in Christ Jesus. A new birth takes place and a new nature is given.

When man is rid of sin the works that he does are "good works" and these good works are pleasing in the eyes of God. Salvation however can not be achieved by an unsaved mans works that this unsaved man feels within are "good works". Salvation of the human soul is worked out only after the believer trusts Christ and has been redeemed and washed in the shed blood Christ at Calvary. Eternal Judgment and Eternal damnation are lifted from those who trust Christ in redemption...but on the other side Eternal Judgment and Eternal damnation "rest" upon the unbelieving soul that is deceived by sin. The good works of a child of God will bring to light the sinful side/or the secret sins of life and reveal, concealed sins.

1 Timothy 5:25...Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

Many today profess redemption and Christianity... but live like the Devil. Some profess redemption and keep sin secret (out of guilt and shame). Both or either show a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Eternal Damnation and Eternal Judgment "rests" upon these un-redeemed souls that profess Salvation with words but their heart is far, far, far from the Christ of our Salvation. All men's sins are open in the eyes of God but not not necessarily before the eyes of man. The works that ripple from sinful conduct follow after as they impact people now, or people later in life, or people in generation after generation to come. The Bible is clear on such doctrine about sin and its ripple effect.

1 Timothy 5:24, 25...Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

The works of a saint or the works of a sinner are determined by God Almighty only. Not by man. Good works and bad works take place in this life and will ripple in generations to come. I like what the Bible says about the works of the saints of God that have went on to Heaven. The works of a saint  "follow" on into next generations. Glory!

Rev. 14:13...Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

As for sinful men and their outward works and/or secret sins...the Judgment of God and Eternal Damnation rests upon these unbelieving and deceived souls. This determination is made by the person of Jesus Christ, the Judge of all humanity...who shall Judge sinful men and all those who obey not the Gospel which pertains to His, death, burial, and resurrection according to the Scriptures.

Rom. 2:16...In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Eternal Life or Eternal Damnation?

The clean heart (made clean by the redemptive work of Christ) makes man eligible to receive Eternal Life. The clean heart is proven in the life of obedience to God. Man’s act of faith brings in the Grace of God which thus enacts holiness of character; the divine nature; and the new birth that are found after every sin is forgiven by the Grace and Mercy of God found in a Saviour. The biblical term for this Divine Operation is termed Justification by Grace. Holiness of heart begins when the human soul is made clean by Justification found in the Grace of God. Only the clean and holy heart makes man eligible to receive “Eternal Life”. Eternal Life does begin in this life as long as the heart of man remains clean and holy. The Bible says, “Without holiness no man shall see the Lord”. Eternal Death (damnation upon the human soul in this life) is God’s Judgment for those whose die in sin and unholiness of heart. The condition of the sinner’s heart is not clean or holy and thus not entitled to Eternal Life with God Almighty…in this life or on the other side in Heaven.

Hubert Lindsey told people they were going to Hell. So did Jesus!

Some people think its cold and uncompassionate to tell people they're going to Hell. Other people don't even believe there is a Hell. Would you believe its God's compassion to save a lost soul from Eternal Damnation that's found in the fires of Hell? Would you believe that Brother Lindsey had compassion for lost souls and gave his total life to the cause of Christ to save souls from the Eternal fiery pits of Hell's Fire? Jesus did the same!

Hell's Damnation is not mentioned to much anymore as people think its an uncompassionate and cold subject that doesn't need to be touched on today. The Bible teaches the opposite. I personally teach Hell and make people acknowledge the fact that they don't have to believe in Hell to go there. I got that slogan from Brother Lindsey.

Today, I read other Blogs such as...Stone the Preacher...and hear excellent testimonies from men that reached back as far as 1968 where Brother Lindsey preached on the streets of Berkeley to radicals, hippies, protesters, students, organizations, the upper crust, the lower crust, the rich, the famous, the talented, the untalented...and just PEOPLE! Brother Lindsey gave himself to the cause of Christ...totally!

People still testify to such today...Why? They were touched by the Christ behind Brother Lindsey's preaching. Even back 40 years ago. Here's a beautiful testimony that touched my heart. It came across another Blog yesterday

In the fall of 1968, I was a brand new freshman, walking onto the campus at UC right at the corner of Bancroft and Telegraph. There he was, surrounded by a small crowd. Isaac the Satanist was mocking him. I was from a little resort town in the Sierras and had never seen anything like this. Somehow I got found myself at the front of the gathering. I had never seen anything like this! He was telling us that we were going to hell and other similar things, with energy, humor and anger. Suddenly, he pointed me out. “And you, you don’t know what you’re doing. Do you?” That was it. I was a 18 year old kid suddenly exposed and humiliated in front of a bunch of strangers. I got away and after that, kept my distance.

But he was right. I didn’t know what I was doing. Three years later, I met Jesus. For the past 38 years have been all over the world, carrying the love and power of God. Unknown to me, Hubert had given me “the word of the Lord.”

Four Biblical types of enlightenment that God has given man since Creation

  1. Creation "reveals" God, the Creator. Man sees himself in light of all created things by the Creator
  2. The conscience of man "reveals" right and wrong even though man's inherited immorality cannot provide him with enough power to do right.
  3. The Law of Moses "revealed" sin and the unholiness of man in light of the Law and Commandments
  4. The Gospel message in the person of Christ "reveals" the sin and unholiness of man by the ministry of the Holy Spirit. This "revelation" can also give man (a sinner from birth) a God given power... to do right.

As all men must give account to God, "Every man since the creation of man has been enlightened to God in one form or another". The reason for man's enlightement to God is, "So that no man is without excuse".

Rom 1:18-20...For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse

Revived...Churches on Trial (audio)...7-12-87 (pt.2)

This show was a two hour broadcast put into two (1 hour) segments. This broadcast brought forth beautiful clairification on the subject of Water Baptism and Eternal Punishment that refuted Jehovah Witness and Seven Day Adventist doctrine.

Self sufficiency, Religion, and the works of the Devil

Self-sufficiency from a Biblical standpoint refers to the state of not requiring any outside aid, support, or interaction from God. A good example of self sufficiency in the Bible is shown through the heart of Lucifer. Lucifer, an anointed Cherub, was the highest of God’s created Angelic beings. The order of Angelic beings can be seen as Cherubim the highest, Seraphim, Archangels, Angels, etc. Within the heart of Lucifer selfishness formed and led him to rebellion against the Creator. Lucifer desired to exalt himself higher than God. The pride within Lucifer’s heart toward God was, “I don’t need you anymore, and I can do it myself.” Note Lucifer’s declaration of… "I will" in Isaiah’s prophecy.

· Isa. 14:12-15…How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

After the fall of Adam defeat, death, and eternal damnation were pronounced upon the serpent and contained in God’s promise of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. The Devil had no foreknowledge of the miracle of Christ’s redemptive power through His descension to earth; or the fullness of His resurrection and exaltation back to the Throneroom. Nor did the Devil know the glory contained in the triumphant power of Salvation and holiness provided for the human soul through the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.

· Gen 3:14-15…And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Although Lucifer was created a perfect being he was limited in knowledge. Lucifer did however separate from God because iniquity was found in his heart.

· Ezek 28:14-15…Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Selfish works from the heart of the serpent found a selfish part of the human soul in Eve. The serpent’s deception thus assisted in leading Eve into disobedience against God.

· 2 Cor 11:3…But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty,

The work of the Devil that influenced Eve caused God’s curse to come upon humanity after the “Original sin”. God’s curse came as the Adamic nature that has since been passed down through the entire human family. The ripple effects from the Adamic nature come in a form of man’s self sufficiency. For this purpose Christ was manifested to “destroy” the ongoing affects of self suffiency in the hearts and lives of sinful men.

· 1 John 3:8…He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Cain the son of Adam was wrapped up in self sufficiency and missed the righteousness of God by faith. Cain with selfish intent gave the work of his hands as an offering to God. Cain in the Hebrew text…means to acquire or possess something by works. Unrighteousness from the Adamic nature possessed the heart and life of Cain.

· 1 John 3:12…Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Abel was a righteous man because of faith and gave a firstling from his flock out of obedience to God. Abel’s intention was not selfish toward God. Abel obtained a righteous witness because of his faith in God. Abel proved righteousness from the heart through the sacrificial offering of his firstling to God.

· Gen 4:4…And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

· Heb 11:4…By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:

Self sufficiency has caused many to fall short of God’s righteousness. Self sufficiency caused Lucifer to fall. Self sufficiency opposes God’s righteousness given to the heart of man by faith. Self seeks its own.

Man’s natural tendency of self sufficiency has formed false religions throughout the pages of history. Ponder the following:

· Reincarnation as all the following believe …Scientology, Native American Indian religion, Hinduism, Theosophy, Buddhism…In the Buddhist scriptures, our body is compared to a guesthouse and our mind to a guest dwelling within it. When we die, our mind leaves our body and goes to the next life, just like a guest leaving a guesthouse and going somewhere else.
· Karma, the works of man
· Zodiac, Astrology, tarot cards, Ouija board

Religion is a form of worshipping something or another God without the experience of a God given righteousness in the human soul. Hundreds of Religions have formed through course of time as the hearts of men have chosen not to recognize God’s authority through conscience nor remain faithful to His Holy presence. The Devil from the beginning was created perfect and accountable to God…but separated because he abode not in the truth. When iniquity was found in his heart he lost faith and thus became unfaithful to God.

· John 8:44…Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Adam and Eve were both created accountable to God. They separated from God because they lost their faith and became disobedient to the Creator. Cain and Abel both heard of God from their parents. Out of jealousy and unfaithfulness to God (from the Adamic nature) Cain slew his brother Abel.

· 1 John 3:12…Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Abel was righteous because he had faith in God. Abel maintained faith by a righteous witness given from God. Faith allows man to have a righteous witness from God because guilt and sin is removed from the conscience. The Lord had respect Abel’s sacrificial offering by faith as it pointed toward the redemptive work of Christ on the cross.

· Heb 12:24…And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Men of faith are faithful to God. Obedience is a product of Faith. Faithful men do things pleasing in God’s sight. Examine the Scripture closely you’ll see that Enoch pleased God by faith.

· Heb 11:5…By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Faithfulness is and always has been a product of Gods righteousness in the hearts of men who have faith in God. Unfaithfulness and unrighteousness are products of man’s unclean heart without faith in God. Man cannot please God without a clean heart. Man cannot cleanse his own heart through works, religious acts, sacraments, or a philosophy however; this is man’s natural inclination and tendency.
Religions are formed by natural men that attempt to change themselves or lead others to a higher plain by human effort or human knowledge. Religion proves mans natural inclination to be self-righteous; or shows mans ability to achieve God through works. Religion leaves out the impartation of God’s righteousness in the human soul that men receive by faith alone. After the flood in Noah’s day, observe man’s religious works that led them to build the tower of Babel.

· Gen 11:5-9…And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel;

· Tower of Babel…When God saw that they acted so madly, he did not resolve to destroy them utterly, since they had not grown wiser by the destruction of the former sinners; but he caused a tumult among them, by producing in them diverse languages, and causing that, through the multitude of those languages, they should not be able to understand one another. The place wherein they built the tower is now called Babylon, because of the confusion of that language which they readily understood before; The Hebrew meaning of the word Babel, is confusion.

A Glimpse of Hell...(audio) by Brother Hubert Lindsey

This audio on the truth about "Hell"was originally a sermon at the Church of Birmingham in Birmingham Mi. where Brother Lindsey served as a pastor of that local body for several years. During that time all the Church services and Bible studies were recorded for preservation of the Gospel that Brother Lindsey preached. I hope to re-publish all of Brother Lindseys teachings as time and God both allow.

Brother Lindsey always proclaimed that modern day preachers have gotten away from teaching the truth about Hell's Fire and Divine Judgment. Both subjects are taught in the Bible and were also taught by the Lord Jesus Christ himself.

Brother Lindsey goes in depth to describe the "inner tortures" of Hell on this audio. This audio is truely an eye opener as it brings men to an accountability to God...before death. Examine the following to find out the truth about "Eternal Damnation" on the following audio.
